Amazon.co.uk Stop Paying Affiliates for PPC Traffic

We’ll it was bound to happen sooner or later, wasn’t it? In September last year Amazon.com stopped it’s affiliates direct linking to its pages using Pay Per Click (PPC) marketing like Google Adwords. Now this is to be implemented on the Amazon.co.uk site from 1/2/2010 (2/1/2010 USA date format).

So come the first of February all affiliates can only use PPC IF they direct the traffic to their own site first.

In addition and I quote direct from the Amazon email I got so that I get it right…

“In addition, as of February 1, 2010 we will no longer pay referral fees on purchases made by customers who are referred to www.amazon.co.uk or www.javari.co.uk via Free Search Results. Free Search Results are links containing an Associate’s tag displayed in a search engine’s free, natural, or organic search results in response to a search query which send customers directly to an Amazon site without the customer first being sent to an Associate’s site and the customer clicking on a link to arrive at the Amazon site.”

So if you are an affiliate who is still direct linking you will need to contact them and change your declared method of advertising if it is stated as PPC. If you don’t then they will delete your account.

You know of course these big guys can do what they want with their advertising program I have no issue with that. But surely giving what two weeks notice is just a bit below the belt isn’t it. Anybody wouldthink they don’t want to look after their affiliates!!

So you have been warned you have until the 1st Feb 2010 to get your house in order.
