Now here is an interesting thing! I always understood that it is best to buy domain names without hyphens wherever possible, or if you do need to go with hyphens use the least amount possible, as Google can see the domain name as spam. For instance my-dogs-dinner. Now I read something today that makes me wonder
It came from a private forum so I can’t really give the full info the post contained. The gist of it is as follows.
The person had noted that they ranked better for a hyphenated domain name that the non-hyphenated.
e.g. mydogsdinner no hyphens, my-dogs-dinner fully hyphenated.
Now I know that many other factors could affect this so whether the poster is correct or not i can’t be sure of. However what did interest me was a comparison that was made!
pen-island verses the alternative without the hyphen! I’ll let you work that one out lol!
This makes me think that there are many many times when this complication could occur with keywords joined together as they mostly are.
Using the example above this would indeed suggest two completely different types of site!
So perhaps we should do a check that our domains mean what we think they mean before committing to them!
Personally I use hyphens often they are easy to read and don’t seem to suffer in my experience, there will always be another view on that though! Food for thought!
