I bought a big filofax today on eBay, nothing interesting there I know! However the lady I bought the item from sent me an email to say she had sent my package. In that email she said something like “would I leave her some feedback as she only had a low number of ratings so far and was very new to selling”. That reminded me of how difficult it can be to get a good reputation early on when trading on either eBay or Amazon. Actually Amazon is much harder to get feedback IMHO.
Here is a little trick I used as a new seller which worked very very well. In each package I would put in a very short BUT hand written note saying something along the lines of ” Hi I hope you are happy with your purchase if you have any problems at all please contact me. I’m very new to selling on Amazon and would really appreciate it if you would spare a moment to give me some positive feedback. Many thanks and I look forward to trading with you again” blahh blahh.
I used this technique more on Amazon, it seems harder all round for buyers to leave feedback. I can in all honesty say it worked like a charm and got me 5 star ratings and off to a flying start. Use it to the same effect on eBay.
It won’t be practical to do it long term, but the point is to get a top-notch reputation from the start and adding that personal touch worked!
I got the idea from an offline marketer who’s teachings I used to read! They hand wrote every sales letter that was sent in the early days, and achieved a huge response rate!
So in addition to the obvious like communication with your buyers make these little things count and you will get great respect from your first customers, who will remember the experience and come back to you.
