Microsoft aren’t all bad! If you’re an Internet Marketer or an eBay seller you could do worse
than head on over too the microsoft OCI tool to check your phrases or eBay titles.
OCI stands for Online Commercial Intent, or explained in simple English, how likely is the
person searching on a particular term likely to BUY expressed as a percentage.
As an example if a search is done for say Mobile Phone, running that through the OCI will give a percentage of 24%, the searcher isn’t yet in a buying mood. They might be thinking of getting a new phone but haven’t decided which one yet!
Lets follow this through getting more detailed as we go, so that you can see the change in the psychology of the different searchers and therefore his/hers increasing intention of buying something.
Mobile 15% Very cold to buying.
Mobile Phone, 24% Not likely to be in a buying mood.
Mobile Phone Slider 76% Getting hotter.
Samsung G900 mobile phone 83% nice and hot JACKPOT!
So the OCI tool will help to prove whether the searcher using a particular phrase is looking to buy or not. If he/she is entering something along the lines of the last entry, they certainly know what they want and may well be ready to buy it, and now. This is great news for us as marketers for several reasons. a, the phrase is long-tailed so will be much easier to attack in the organic search engines and quite possibly Google Adwords.
b, we know that the person entering the phrase at this level of detail is very much
in the frame of mind for buying.
Many people new to Internet Marketing think that they can’t compete against the hot keywords such
as Mobile Phone, well to be honest why would you really want to? The people searching for this
term are not qualified they have a vague interest only at this point. Let the big boys spend the big dosh on ranking for those words you leach of it by concentrating on snapping those visitors up when they are ready to buy!
I would much rather have 10 qualified visitors a day than 200 unqualified! There is nothing
stopping you using more than one long tailed phrase to build your traffic over time.
Ebay Sellers reading this can use the tool in much the same way. Getting the product
Brand and exact model number etc will make you one of only a few sellers that might go to this level of detail and trouble! That of course means you limit your competition, and limited competition means more sales.
So build a simple website (could be a blog) around the long tailed phrase and put together a compelling offer for the visitor and you will do very well. Ebay sellers get your titles keyword packed relating to your item and you too will sell more. Good Luck!
